We decided to spend New Year’s in Wyoming at the Homestead and do some skiing. We drove to Afton in about ten hours, but on good roads in clear weather.
When we arrived the furnace had gone out in the Afton Homestead. It was a cool 38 degrees in the house when we arrived. It took most of the night to heat up the house, but we woke up the next morning to a clear cold Wyoming winter. For the next to days we took it easy at the house with ski touring up Swift Creek in the afternoons.
On January second we drove to the park and did another ski tour up Cottonwood Creek. We ended up making a big circle arriving at the AAC Climber’s Ranch in time for some wine and cheese just before the sun dipped behind the mountains.
We checked into the Alpenhof that evening and spent the next two days skiing at Jackson Hole. No new snow, but good snow coverage so just about everything is open. Not enough snow to encourage Shane to ski Corbet’s Coulior, but enough to encourage him to ski Coomb’s run on the Headwall.
Skiers hiking up to the top of the Headwall. It was a group from Winter Park training for competition.
We just had a great dinner of nacho’s and beer. Tomorrow it’s back to the real world.
